The Old
Dominion University invites applications for a tenure track position in Middle/Secondary
Education at the level of Assistant/Associate Professor in the Department of
Teaching & Learning, Darden College of Education, beginning July 25,
2016. The strongest candidate will have expertise
in multiculturalism, culturally relevant pedagogy, or social justice and interest
in researching and working with partnership schools in urban communities.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities include: (a) producing
scholarly research related to emphasis areas; (b) teaching and developing
undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral level courses in curriculum and
instruction and teacher education; (c) contributing to design and enactment of
the middle/secondary education programs and working with local middle and high
schools; (d) conducting and seeking external funding to support scholarly activities;
(e) cultivating school and community partnerships; (f) teaching face-to-face
and distance learning courses, while developing multi-format delivery of
courses; and (g) mentoring/advising doctoral students in education.
Minimum
Qualifications - knowledge, skills, and abilities
Successful candidates must have:
· a
minimum of 3 years teaching experience in middle or secondary schools;
· evidence
of quality university teaching appropriate to rank; and
· a strong
potential for/history of research and scholarly activities.
Minimum Qualifications -
Education or training
· an earned doctorate in middle/secondary
education or related field by August 31, 2016
Preferred Qualifications:
·
Experience teaching
middle grades, and program design/management of middle-level teacher
preparation;
· Expertise
in multicultural education or social justice education, with additional
background in one or more of the following areas: curriculum history and
theory, teacher education, foundations of education, or assessment;
· A
demonstrated commitment to diversity and the ability to work collaboratively
with faculty, students, and school-based personnel, especially in middle grades
settings;
· Experience
in teaching blended or online classes as well as face-to-face classes;
· A commitment
to working in an interdisciplinary teaching and learning environment;
· Background
in and willingness to assume a leadership role at the local, state, and/or
national/international levels; and
· Record
of seeking external funding and participating in research and school-based
projects.

student enrollment of 24, 670, including approximately 6,000 graduate students,
and a full time equivalent faculty of over 720 of which 40% are female. ODU is
