TWO OPEN RANK POSITIONS ANNOUNCEMENT:Curriculum and Instruction and Sociocultural Foundations of EducationDESCRIPTION:The Department of Teacher Education in the College of Education at The University of Texas at El Paso (UTEP) seeks two tenure-track faculty members (open rank) to teach courses in the Sociocultural Foundations and Research Program Area. The anticipated appointment date is Fall 2014. The ideal candidates will embrace the access and excellence mission of UTEP, excel as educators and researchers at a national research university, and contribute meaningfully to the university, profession, and larger community.Position #1—Curriculum and InstructionThe ideal candidate will demonstrate multifaceted understanding of advanced curriculum theory with expertise in one or more related areas, including history of education, sociology of education, interdisciplinary pedagogy, and critical education.Position #2—Sociocultural Foundations of EducationThe ideal candidate will demonstrate critical understanding of research, pedagogy, and theory; and have teaching experience in any of the following related fields: foundations of education, multicultural education, and social studies education.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates are required to have: 1) an earned doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, Sociocultural Foundations of Education, or a related field (ABD considered if degree is in hand by start date); 2) a demonstrated record of or potential for scholarly research, publication, and external funding; 3) a demonstrated commitment or potential for teaching excellence; and 4) the ability to work effectively with faculty, staff, and students from diverse ethnic, cultural, and socioeconomic backgrounds.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS1) K-12 teaching experience, 2) proficiency in instructional technology, 3) evidence of excellence in teacher preparation programs and student advising at the graduate level, 4) evidence of potential for leadership in the program area, department, and college.SALARY: Salary is negotiable and based on qualifications and experience.THE DEPARTMENT and PROGRAM: The UTEP Department of Teacher Education (http://coe.utep.edu/ted/) offers undergraduate and graduate degrees, including a Ph.D. in Teaching, Learning, and Culture.
