The School of Education at the University of Colorado Boulder announces three tenure track faculty positions


The School of Education at the University of Colorado Boulder announces three tenure track faculty positions for the 2014-2015 academic year: Bilingual Special Education or Bilingual Education, Quantitative Research Methods, and Secondary Literacy/English Education. 
The CU-Boulder School of Education is located at the flagship campus of the University of Colorado, situated at the base of the Rocky Mountains 25 miles northwest of Denver. The School intends to hire at the Assistant and Associate Professor levels, with consideration given to hiring at the Professor level when appropriate. Scholars of color are strongly encouraged to apply. 

Responsibilities: Candidates for the positions must be willing to contribute to teaching and program development in the teacher education and graduate programs, conduct research, publish in significant refereed journals, and seek outside funding. Candidates must be committed to working with culturally and linguistically diverse populations. 

Salary: Commensurate with experience and scholarly record. 

Bilingual Special Education or Bilingual Education: Candidates must have a relevant earned doctorate and strong background in bilingual special education or bilingual education, as well as experience with curriculum and teaching in elementary and/or secondary public schools. Candidates must have a strong research agenda in an aspect of language acquisition or biliteracy development. They must have experience with culturally and linguistically diverse students from a variety of backgrounds. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate teacher education classes focused on the needs of second language learners and special education students as well as teaching graduate classes in bilingual special education and/or bilingual/ESL. Preference will be given to candidates who are fluent in spoken and written Spanish, to those with experience in secondary schools, and to those who have expertise in special education as well as bilingual education. The successful candidate’s research agenda should be aligned with the bilingual/ESL programs at the University of Colorado Boulder, which focus on educational research, policy, and practice related to all cultural and linguistic groups in the U.S., particularly Spanish speaking populations in the Southwest.

Quantitative Research Methods: Candidates must have a relevant earned doctorate and strong background in the application of quantitative methods in educational research. Responsibilities include mentoring doctoral students and teaching introductory and advanced graduate courses in research design and applied statistics, including the topics of causal inference, experimental and quasi-experimental research designs, and applications of the generalized linear (mixed) model for descriptive, predictive and inferential purposes. Strong programming skills and an ability to apply this towards practical extensions of statistical methodology are desirable. Preference will be given to candidates able to develop and/or apply innovative methods that address important issues directly relevant to educational policy and practice. We would be interested in scholars with expertise in longitudinal, multilevel, and categorical data analysis, and in emerging areas such as social network analysis and educational data mining. The successful candidate should be able to explicate an active and clear research agenda, have a strong publication record (commensurate with experience), and demonstrate the potential to obtain external funding. She/he will be encouraged to collaborate with faculty members from other program areas and departments on applied projects.

Secondary Literacy/English Education: Candidates must have an earned doctorate in secondary literacy education, English education, or related field. We seek applicants whose work addresses issues of race, class, culture, gender, and/or sexuality in studies of the teaching and learning of literacy and youth literacy practices. Successful candidates leverage a robust theoretical perspective of culture and learning and literacy as a social practice, including, for instance, critical, sociocultural or poststructuralist perspectives on literacy and learning. Desired research areas include multimodal and new media literacies, writing, critical discourse studies, academic language and literacy, or the study of policy through a literacy education lens. In addition, applicants must have a strong commitment to practice-based, social justice-oriented teacher education and to building partnerships with public schools or community-based organizations. Preference will be given to individuals with teaching and research experience at the middle or secondary school level, especially those who have experience with culturally and linguistically diverse student populations.
