ANTICIPATED POSITION OF ASSISTANT PROFESSOR OF FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION NORTHERN ILLINOIS UNIVERSITY
Tenure Track, Beginning August 16, 2014
The Department of Leadership, Educational Psychology, and Foundations
at Northern Illinois University is seeking a dynamic, experienced
colleague with expertise in foundations of education. The department
offers a Master’s degree in Foundations of Education and Certificates
of Study at the undergraduate and graduate level. The department also
provides foundations service courses at the undergraduate and graduate
level and participates in the university’s general education program.
Responsibilities: The qualified candidate will be expected to teach
graduate and undergraduate courses in foundations of education, both
on and off campus; conduct a focused program of research in a
foundations area; serve on thesis and dissertation committees; support
the university general education program through teaching and
assessment; contribute to program development; and perform duties in
the shared governance system of the university. The successful
candidate will work within the department and foundations program,
whose faculty members represent the fields of anthropology, history,
sociology, philosophy and policy studies. This is a permanent, tenure-
track position with salary based on experience.
Required Qualifications: Earned doctorate in foundations of education
or a related field by date of appointment; demonstrated capacity to
develop a focused program of research in the foundations of education;
and evidence of collegiality. Preferred: We are especially interested
in candidates with experience and/or knowledge of educational policy
issues. Other desired qualifications include: K-12 teaching or
administrative experience; prior teaching experience at the college or
university level; successful undergraduate and/or graduate teaching
experience; an active research agenda; experience in on-line
instruction; successful acquisition of external funding; and
experience with a diverse undergraduate and graduate student
population.
