Early Childhood Education

Position: Teachers College, Columbia University, invites applications
for a position in Early Childhood Education at the rank of Assistant
or Associate Professor, tenure track or tenured. This is a unique
opportunity to join the long tradition of excellence and commitment to
diversity and inclusiveness that have characterized the field of Early
Childhood Education at Teachers College. We are seeking a creative and
collaborative colleague who will engage in transformational teaching
and scholarship in early childhood education as part of our efforts to
re-imagine teacher education in the 21st century, and who has the
capacity to develop a significant program of research using a variety
of research methods. Relevant areas of expertise include: innovative
approaches to early childhood teacher education assessment; technology
in early childhood teacher education, including on-line course
components; working with diverse families and communities; inclusive
education; or curriculum design. A strong commitment to urban
education and diversity, including social, cultural, linguistic,
ability-related, and economic diversities, is essential to this
position.

Responsibilities: Teach courses related to integrated curriculum in
early childhood education and working with diverse families of young
children to masters and doctoral students; teach doctoral seminars in
early childhood education and occasional department-wide courses.
Develop and/or maintain a significant program of funded research and
scholarship related to early childhood teacher education. Collaborate
with faculty to develop and guide the program in integrated early
childhood education. Advise masters and doctoral students; serve as a
member of doctoral committees and supervise doctoral research.
Collaborate with and support field-based educators, especially those
in public schools in urban, culturally and linguistically diverse
settings. Contribute to Teachers College’s commitment to serving
schools in New York City and the world.

Qualifications: Earned doctorate in early childhood education or
related field with an emphasis on early childhood curriculum,
inclusive education, teacher education and assessment, and/or working
with families in diverse settings. Evidence of or demonstrated
potential for successful university teaching and for securing and
participating in funded research and scholarship in at least one of
the areas articulated above. At least three years of experience
teaching in preK-grade 2 schools, preferably in urban, multicultural,
inclusive settings. Previous experience and ongoing commitment to
collaborative work with university and field-based colleagues.
Experience in or potential for engaging in innovative professional
development with early childhood teachers in highly diverse settings.
