TENURE TRACK FACULTY POSITION IN MULTILINGUAL/MULTICULTURAL EDUCATION 
EFFECTIVE DATE: Mid-August, 2016 

THE SCHOOL OF EDUCATION: The School of Education at California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) is a dynamic mission-driven academic unit dedicated to collaborative efforts to improve teaching and learning at all levels. The school has many productive partnerships with area school districts to enhance teaching and teacher education. Our professional education programs are state-of-the-art and include initial teacher credential programs, master’s degree programs for experienced teachers, a credential program for aspiring school administrators, and a joint doctoral program in educational leadership. As a part of our commitment to effective education for all students, we devote continuous attention to issues of cultural and linguistic diversity in all aspects of the school and its operation. 

THE POSITION: One tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level is available for individuals with expertise in one or all of the following Educational areas; Multilingual, Multicultural or Dual Language Instruction. Applicants should have demonstrated excellence in teaching and record of, or potential for educational research in an appropriate field. Candidates for this position are expected to teach courses in multiple program areas including multicultural/multilingual education for K-12 teacher candidates, bilingual authorization, dual language certificate, and master’s program courses. Duties also include supervision of teacher candidates in clinical practice and advisement of candidates in the master’s program. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Earned doctorate in an appropriate field of study and demonstrated record of commitment to and leadership in educational equity and social justice. Significant preparation in multicultural and multilingual content, including critical pedagogy, first and second language acquisition theory, bilingual/dual language programs, and national and state standards for teaching English Learners (ELs). Understanding of and direct experience with students, families and communities representing a wide range of ethnic, cultural, and linguistic backgrounds. Bilingual / biliterate (Spanish/English) or multilingual ability is required. 

DESIRED/PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: University teaching experience in bilingual/dual language courses and English language development for pre-service and/or in-service teachers. Evidence of collaborative work in K-12 schools. Active research agenda in multicultural and/or multilingual education. Three years of teaching in diverse settings. Demonstrated effective use of technology in teaching. Expertise and leadership in the education of English learners and/or ‘at-risk/foster children’ preferred. Experience co-teaching and/or teaching in inclusive settings preferred. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated intercultural competence with diverse groups in teaching, research and/or service.
