Position Description  (responsibilities/duties)
Texas State University invites qualified individuals to apply for a tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor position in the Elementary Education M.Ed. Program in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction. We seek candidates who reflect our commitment to social justice education and uphold the university's standing as a Hispanic Serving Institution by serving the needs of Latino students as well as growing and retaining our diverse student population. However, scholars with expertise in all aspects of elementary education are welcome to apply. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate and graduate education courses, developing and publishing research in a sustained line of inquiry, advising graduate students, supervising students in the field, monitoring and refining degree programs, supporting student recruitment efforts, and providing service to the program, department, university, and the professional community. Salary is competitive and commensurate with experience. Applicants from ethnic, racial, linguistic or other minority backgrounds are strongly encouraged to apply. Position will begin in Fall 2016.

Qualifications for Associate Professor Rank
Required:
·       Earned doctorate by hire date in curriculum and instruction, elementary education, or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education.
·       Record of excellence in scholarly activity in the field of elementary education as evidenced by publications, presentations, grants, etc. commensurate with rank.
·       Demonstration of excellence in teaching at the university level.
·       Record of at least 3 years of teaching experience in PK-12 schools.
·       To be eligible for hire at the associate professor rank, candidate must meet the requirements for that rank as established by the department. The successful applicant will receive the appropriate rank and title based on University and department established standards.


Preferred:
·       Evidence of research and practice related to issues of social justice, equity, access, and culturally responsive praxis.
·       Evidence of research and practice related to multilingual learning.
·       Evidence of research and practice related to social studies methods and curriculum in PK-12 settings.
·       Record of at least 3 years of teaching experience in PK-8 schools with culturally and linguistically diverse students.
·       Evidence of experience, knowledge, and skills for program accreditation.
·       Evidence of success in advising, mentoring, recruiting and coordinating graduate program in elementary education.
·       Evidence of success in seeking external grants and contracts.


Qualifications for Assistant Professor Rank
Required:
·       Earned doctorate by hire date in curriculum and instruction, elementary education, or a closely related field from an accredited institution of higher education.
·       Record of, or demonstrated potential for, excellence in scholarly activity in the field of elementary education as evidenced by publications, presentations, grants, etc.
·       Record of at least 3 years of teaching experience in PK-12 schools.
·       Teaching experience in university settings.

Preferred:
·       Demonstrated experience and commitment to issues of social justice, equity, access, and culturally responsive praxis.
·       Evidence of experience and/or research related to multilingual learning.
·       Evidence of experience in social studies methods and curriculum in PK-12 settings
·       Record of, or demonstrated potential for, grant procurement.
·       Potential for success in advising, recruiting, and coordinating graduate program in elementary education.
·       At least 3 years of teaching experience in PK-8 schools with culturally and linguistically diverse students.
·       Demonstration of the potential for service at the department, college, and/or university level.

The Community:
San Marcos, a city of about 54,000 residents, is situated in the beautiful Central Texas Hill Country, 30 miles south of Austin and 48 miles north of San Antonio.  Metropolitan attractions plus outdoor recreational opportunities makes the community an attractive place in which to live and work.  Other major metropolitan areas, including Houston and Dallas-Ft. Worth, are within four hours.  Round Rock, a city of 109,000 residents is located 15 miles north of Austin in the Central Texas hill country.

Some positions may require teaching on the main campus and at the Texas State University Round Rock Campus.
