Position
The Department of Educational Policy and Leadership Studies at the University of Iowa invites applications for one
to two academic year tenure-track or clinical-track faculty positions to begin August 2016 at the rank of
assistant/associate/full professor in the Educational Leadership program.
Description:
The Dean and program faculty are dedicated to developing innovative principal licensure and superintendent
certification programs that build on our legacy of developing highly effective principals and superintendents who
will be vigorous education leaders for the 21st century. We are committed to preparing leaders who inspire teachers
and make it their mission to provide their students with the very best preparation for their futures. We welcome

The faculty position is open rank; we seek candidates with diverse experience and credentials. The faculty position
may be either tenure-track or clinical-track; the position will be tailored to the strengths of the candidate.
Tenure-track faculty allocate their efforts as 40% research, 40% teaching, and 20% service. Candidates best suited
for tenure-track need to present a record or promise of scholarly productivity, excellence in teaching, and a record of
commitment to competing for external funding. Eventual tenure with promotion to associate and full ranks are part
of the tenure-track trajectory.
Clinical-track faculty are typically allocated 75% teaching/field supervision and 25% service. A clinical faculty
member must provide evidence of excellence in teaching, supervision, and curricular planning. Clinical-track
faculty are eligible for promotions to associate and full and may have continuous multiple year appointments.
The Educational Leadership Program offers three degrees.
1. M.A. (designed for principal licensure)
2. Ed.S. (designed for superintendent certification)
3. Ph.D.
The candidate hired as either tenure-track or clinical-track will serve as a faculty member for all three degrees.
Education Requirement:
Prospective candidates must have earned a doctorate in Educational Leadership or a related field by August 2016.
Required Qualifications:
(1) Experience in K-12 instructional leadership
(2) Commitment to leadership for social justice
(3) Scholarship, teaching record, and professional engagement appropriate for chosen rank and track
(4) Experience with educator professional development and/or higher education teaching
(5) Commitment to developing and teaching online courses
(6) Success in working collaboratively and with diverse populations.
(7) Potential for securing external funds for research, training, and program development
Desirable Qualifications:
(1) Participation as a UCEA Jackson Scholar and/or Mentor
(2) Participation in UCEA Graduate Student Summit
(3) Evidence of school/university partnership experience
(4) Experience in securing external funds for research, training, and program development
(5) Experience teaching and/or designing online instruction.
Responsibilities:
The successful applicant will maintain an ongoing program of research or professional productivity in an area
related to educational leadership; design and teach courses in Educational Leadership with a commitment to online
offerings; and advise MA and PhD students. In addition, the successful candidate will be expected to pursue and
secure external funding, participate in the activities of professional organizations and be involved with state and
national activities that support the practice of school leadership.
Salary:
