Position Summary
The Multilingual Multicultural Studies unit within the Department of Teaching and Learning at New York University invites applications for a tenure-track position at the Assistant Professor level in TESOL/Bilingual/Foreign Language Education. The position begins September 1, 2016.
QUALIFICATIONS
The successful applicant will have an earned doctorate in TESOL, Applied Linguistics, Second Language Acquisition, Bilingual Education, Foreign Language Education, or a related field, along with some experience teaching pre-service and/or in-service teachers at the undergraduate or graduate levels. We are seeking applicants whose scholarship contributes to the teaching and learning of English language learners in schools in one or more of the following areas: language and content learning, academic language development, bilingual/dual language education. Priority will be given to candidates with a record of publications and evidence of a systematic program of research as well as success in, and/or strong potential for, securing external funding. Advanced skills in using educational technology for language teaching are a plus.
RESPONSIBILITIES
- Engage in research, writing, and other scholarly activities;
- Teach a range of courses in the areas of second/foreign language theory, practice, and research;
Contribute to program development; advise graduate and undergraduate students;
- Teach doctoral courses in area of expertise or Teaching and Learning generally; serve on doctoral dissertation committees;
- Pursue individually or with others external funding for research, curriculum development, teacher education initiatives, and/or program evaluation;
- Contribute to the further development of the department, its programs, and specializations within the Multilingual Multicultural Studies unit; and
- Participate in faculty meetings, committees, and provide service, outreach, and leadership to the department, university, educational institutions, agencies, and professional organizations
