SPECIAL EDUCATION AND INCLUSION STUDIES
The Department of Educational Studies invites applications for a
two-year visiting professor position in Special Education/Critical
Disability and Inclusion Studies beginning Fall 2015. Colgate is a
highly selective liberal arts university of 2800 students situated in
central New York. Colgate faculty are strongly committed to both
teaching and scholarship and contribute to Colgate’s all-university
programs including the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum.
In addition to offering a major and minor concentration program in
Educational Studies, we offer elementary and secondary education
programs, including a ninth-term program and a Master of Arts in
Teaching degree. The Educational Studies Department at Colgate is
social justice focused. All department faculty provide courses both to
students majoring/minoring in Educational Studies and those pursuing a
career in teaching. Therefore, we are interested in receiving
applications from individuals who understand the role of Educational
Studies at a liberal arts institution and can contribute to the
intellectual development of both groups of students. We are
particularly interested in candidates who have prior K-12 teaching
experience and will include our students in engagement with the
community beyond the college classroom. Student teacher supervision
experience would be an asset.
A letter of application that addresses the needs and desires outlined
above, unofficial graduate school transcripts, current vita, brief
statement of a teaching philosophy, evidence of good teaching, and at
least three reference letters must be submitted through

community supportive of diverse perspectives, identities and ways of
life. Candidates are encouraged to describe in their cover letter
their strengths and experiences in teaching diverse student
populations and in promoting a diverse and inclusive educational
environment. Completion of Ph.D. or Ed.D. is expected prior to or
shortly after the date of hire.
Review of application materials will begin October 27, 2014 and
continue until the position is filled. Applicants with dual-career
consideration can find postings of other employment opportunities at
Colgate and at other institutions of higher education in upstate New
York at www.upstatenyherc.org. Colgate is an Equal
Opportunity/Affirmative Action Employer; women and minority candidates
are especially encouraged to apply.
