POST-DOC IN QUALITATIVE METHODS AND POPULAR CULTURE, SYRACUSE UNIVERSITY, CULTURAL FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION

POST-DOC IN QUALITATIVE METHODS AND POPULAR CULTURE, SYRACUSE
UNIVERSITY, CULTURAL FOUNDATIONS OF EDUCATION

The Department of Cultural Foundations of Education at Syracuse
University invites applications for a one-year, post-doctoral position
to teach graduate level courses in interpretive qualitative methods.
The person would teach a 3/3 load that would include teaching
Introduction to Qualitative Methods each term. This course primarily
serves the School of Education but also draws enrollment from other
disciplines in the University. In addition, applicants should also
have scholarly expertise in popular culture to be able to teach an
undergraduate course titled Youth, Schooling and Popular Culture and
the graduate version of this course. The department is starting a new
master's degree in Media & Education in which this is one of the core
courses.

A primary goal of this postdoctoral position is the intellectual
development of the Fellow and our department through productive
academic interaction. The post-doctoral fellowship offers
recently-qualified academics the opportunity to develop their own
research and teaching skills in consultation with faculty in Cultural
Foundations of Education. In evaluating candidates, we would give
weight to candidates who in addition to meeting the department's core
teaching needs would also enrich the foundational perspectives
represented in the department and who would contribute to the
department's central interest in advancing social justice in
education.

Cultural Foundations of Education is an interdisciplinary department
with a focus on inequality and offers an intellectually welcoming
environment for emerging dynamic scholars. Students attracted to our
department are diverse, of high- caliber, and our community is lively
and supportive.

Candidates must have an earned doctorate, and experience in university
teaching and background or experience teaching qualitative research
methods as well as experience conducting qualitative research.

The position is open for the fall semester of 2014.

Review of applications will begin on April 25, 2013 and will continue
until the position is filled. Applicants should submit a letter of
application including a statement of teaching and research interests,
curriculum vitae, transcripts, three letters of reference and writing
sample online at www.sujobopps.com.
