Associate Director of the School of Education
The School of Education (SOE) in the College of Human Sciences at Iowa State University invites applications for a senior faculty member to hold the position of Associate Director of the School of Education with a negotiable but no later than start date of August 16, 2016. Candidates will be eligible for faculty appointment at the rank of Professor or Associate Professor with tenure, depending on qualifications.
The Associate Director will play a critical role in guiding and supporting the University’s vision to be a leading U.S. educator preparation institution. We thus seek a dynamic, innovative, and enthusiastic colleague who will join a collaborative faculty in designing and enacting ambitious, research-based PK-12 educator preparation programs at Iowa State.
Associate Director responsibilities:
Coordinate University Educator Preparation programs, lead the university-wide Educator Preparation Coordinating Council, facilitate the educator preparation program’s continuous improvement processes, and oversee accreditation initiatives and processes.
Collaborate with faculty and staff in the educator preparation programs to articulate and enact an integrated, ambitious vision of research-based educator preparation programs that will prepare professionals to work in an increasingly diverse society.
Foster partnerships with students, faculty and staff within the university; with other educator preparation programs in the state; and with educational policymakers and community leaders.
Communicate, collaborate, and coordinate with other Regents Institutions on educator preparation issues.
Contribute as a faculty member in the University’s graduate and undergraduate educator certification programs, and masters/doctoral level programs.
Collaborate with the Deans of the Colleges of Human Sciences, Liberal Arts and Sciences and the Agriculture and Life Sciences, the Director of the School of Education, the Director of Teacher Education Services, members of the teacher and administrator education faculty and staff, and other interested faculty and community leaders to envision, design, develop and deliver educator preparation programs.

In addition:
Coordinate and, where appropriate participate, in a research program to study the preparation of PK-12 teachers and administrators and their relationships with students, parents, and communities;
Support program offerings, field experiences, and internships that are embedded in substantive community engagement and renewal of both the University and partner school districts;
Collaborate with teacher and administrator education faculty and staff to foster coherence and alignment between coursework and field experiences;
Foster community relationships to create additional opportunities for students to acquire the knowledge and skills necessary to work with students with diverse linguistic, cultural, socioeconomic, ethnic, and racial backgrounds;
Enhance student recruitment and retention efforts in support of increasing the number of students from traditionally under-represented groups in educator preparation programs.

The successful candidate will have a record of excellence in research, teaching, and grant acquisition and demonstrated commitment to equitable educational access and opportunity for all students.

Required Qualifications:  Appointments at the Professor or Associate Professor level must hold a doctorate in education or a closely related field and meet university standards for appointment at the respective rank including publications in top-tier refereed journals, acquisition of external funding for research activities, and nationally recognized contributions to scholarship in area of expertise.

Preferred Qualifications:  
Successful administrative experience leading an educator preparation program.
Demonstrated research agenda in teacher education, educational administration, or a closely related content area.
Experience in leading organizational development, preparing and supporting educators, and addressing program, curricular, pedagogical and licensure issues in education-related fields.
Demonstrated commitment to social justice issues in education.
Demonstrated commitment to honoring student, faculty and staff diversity.
Evidence of ability to facilitate and communicate the school’s and university’s vision for educator preparation.

Salary: Commensurate with qualifications.
