Volunteer to Become a Nature Play Leader in the Luci and Ian Family Garden at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center!

Volunteer to Become a Nature Play Leader in the Luci and Ian Family Garden at the Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center!
We’d like to invite you to a special training that will prepare you to interact with kids and families in the garden as Nature Play Leaders. We have weekly volunteer shifts set up for Nature Play Leaders in the Family Garden to ensure that Safety, Respect and Fun are a top priority.
We will train you in the role of Nature Play Leader, which includes some if not most of the following duties:
  • Monitor various “hot spots” and ensure guidelines are being followed while being a friendly face and valuable resource to the public
  • Promote unrestrictive and unstructured play
  • Act as referee when needed in order to maintain order but be a friend
  • Acquire tools and materials needed by children and families to facilitate games, play, etc.
  • Accept a wide range of ages and individual differences
  • Support children during their work and play with minimal interference
  • Don’t interfere with play but introduce an interesting skill if asked
  • Create opportunities that allow children to pursue their own agendas
  • Introduce flexibility and adaptability into play environments
When: Saturday, July 12th from 9-4pm
Where: Wildflower Center Classrooms
If you are interested in this new volunteer opportunity or have specific questions about the training, please contact Education Coordinator, Anjoli Fry at afry@wildflower.org or 512-232-0277. We hope you will join us for this fun and experiential training!
