The world is changing rapidly. How do we know if our students are prepared for the future economy? Most jobs will require a college degree or more by 2020, but only 73% of Latino students are graduating from high school, which is roughly 10 percentage points behind the national average. Despite Latinos making up a growing percentage of American youth, wide achievement gaps persist between them and their peers. The Common Core State Standards (CCSS) are designed to ensure that students graduate from high school prepared for college, work, and success in the global economy. NCLR sees this as a critical first step in narrowing the achievement gap for our Latino students. NCLR is launching a new web page to promote its “Step Up to College, Step Into a Career” Common Core campaign. Visit the site to learn more about NCLR’s efforts in support of the CCSS in key states. Check out theResources page for state and national fact sheets, the Take Action page to see how you can help, and the In the Media page to learn about our CCSS media coverage and read all of our latest blog posts! Check out our updated website and discover how the Common Core State Standards will help Latino students achieve their full potential. Sincerely, Delia Pompa Senior Vice President, Programs P.S.—After a two-year hiatus, we have also relaunched our Twitter account!
