National Museum of Mexican Art--Chicago, Events


Mark Your Calendars!  Rito y Recuerdo, Day of the Dead is Coming Soon.
This fall join us for the largest annual Day of the Dead exhibition in the U.S.

Ofrendas, installations, and works of art created by Mexican artists from both sides of the border invite visitors to celebrate life by glimpsing death. Delve into the age old traditions from the states of Mexico and Yucatan, as well as contemporary works of art created in the U.S. that remember and revere our ancestors.

The Museum will begin taking tour reservations for this exhibition by phone on August 1, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. CST. Please call the museum at 312-738-1503. Reservations are not taken via email.

Desde Adentro: Abstract Works of art from the National Museum of Mexican Art's Permanent Collection 
Due to the phenomenal success of the Mexican Muralist Movement and the educational objective in the 20th century, Modern Mexican abstract artists were not as well known. This exhibition includes over 35 works by artists such as Gunther Gerzso, Vicente Rojo, Leonardo Nierman, Manuel Felguérez, Vladimir Cora, and Chicago artist Dan Ramirez.

Líneas Borrosas: Selected Artwork by Gabriel Villa
A one-person exhibition of artist & muralist Gabriel Villa (b.1965) will be on display in the, KRAFT Gallery. Born in El Paso, Texas and raised along the Ciudad Juárez borderland; Villa now lives and works in Chicago. Many of his images and icons reference his memories of life along the border, and/or of newfound issues in the Midwest, such as ever-present poverty, or the politics of empowerment.

Cuerdas Clásicas ConcertSaturday, July 19th
Come to the Museum to hear Cuerdas Clásicas play music from their new album called "World Music". 

On Saturday, July 19th doors open at 6:30 pm and the Cuerdas Clásicas concert begins at 7:00Click here for more information and to purchase tickets. Tickets for adults cost $15 in advance and $20 at the door.

Cuerdas Clásicas is a not-for-profit organization with the attributes of troubadours and bohemians who at times present themselves with tuxedos to interpret melodies of semi-classical nature. In their other appearance as members of an estudiantina, the attire is Spanish as well used in the 16th century with the purpose of promoting art culture.
Take Home a Pair of Wrigley Field Centennial Seats Designed by the National Museum of Mexican Art
This pair of chairs was painted byYollocalli Arts Reach of the National Museum of Mexican Art to commemorate the soccer games held at Wrigley Field. 

Bid on the seats to make them your own, or just visit them in downtown Chicago at Michigan Avenue and Huron Street. Proceeds from this pair of chairs will benefit Cubs Charities and the National Museum of Mexican Art.
