Teacher Education in Bilingual Education

The University of North Texas at Dallas invites
applications for a tenure track professor of Bilingual Teacher Education for Fall
2014. Rank of Assistant or Associate
Professor and salary will be based upon prior experience and scholarly
achievement. The selected candidate will
be expected to provide leadership for our Texas Education Agency accredited EC-6
generalist teacher education program with bilingual certification.
RESPONSIBILITIES: Provide instructional leadership for elementary bilingual
teacher education program at undergraduate and graduate levels; engage in meaningful applied research and scholarly activities. The
successful candidate will be expected to fully participate in internal and
external service such as public engagement, ongoing curriculum improvement, student
recruiting, student advisement and mentoring, program assessment, program
development and committee responsibilities. May be
assigned to teach evening and/or Saturday classes, develop and/or teach hybrid or
online courses. May be assigned to supervise field experiences for bilingual
teacher education candidates; develop and maintain collaborative and professional
partnerships/relationships with local schools and provide service at the
university, state, local and national levels
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

A doctorate
in Curriculum and Instruction (bilingual specialization), Reading, Spanish
linguistics, or other related Educational field from an accredited institution;
·

graduate hours in bilingual education;
·
Demonstrated academic proficiency in Spanish and English;
·
Demonstrated extensive knowledge of theories and practice of
bilingual education, including linguistics;
·
Three
years of classroom teaching experience in a U.S. elementary bilingual education
classroom;
·
Promise
of initiating or maintaining a scholarly agenda leading to promotion and tenure;
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
·
Demonstrated
experience with interdisciplinary work across divisions and departments;
·
Demonstrated
intercultural communication skills with multicultural populations;
·
Experience
developing and/or teaching hybrid or online courses;
·
Experience
using Black Board Learn or other course management system;
·
Experience
acquiring extramural funding;
·
Academic
experience on a campus with culturally diverse students, staff, and faculty;
·
Current
state certified (any U.S. state) elementary school teacher or able to obtain within
first year of employment;
·
Record
of public engagement with bilingual parents and community groups ;
·
Five
years or more teaching experience;
·
Experience
as bilingual administrator or program coordinator;
·
Established
publication and scholarly record.
