Founding Director, Ed.D. in Education for School and Community
Change, Radford University (Application Due: Open Until Filled)

Radford University has an opening for a Founding Director of a new
applied doctoral degree in Education for School and Community Change
with an emphasis on place-based education. During the first year of
implementation, major responsibilities will focus on recruitment,
working closely with the Graduate College, establishing an advisory
board of school and community leaders and faculty; working with
faculty on Quality Matters training and effective course preparation
for technology-supported doctoral level classes. Other
responsibilities will include outreach, curriculum development and
budgeting. This is an eleven-month teaching/research position within
the School of Teacher Education and Leadership with expected summer
teaching in the program.

The new Ed. D. in Education for School and Community Change will
prepare those who wish to advance as educators and educational and
community leaders in diverse settings for work in K-12 education,
higher education, and community service fields. This is a cohort,
on-line program with on-campus summer residency requirements. The
program focuses on place-based education applied to understanding
complex school/community issues on local and global contexts whose
graduates will work for collaborative, positive social change. To

Required Qualifications:
A doctorate in education or a related field with experience in higher
education and services or assignments that address complex school
and/or community issues within local and/or global contexts. Other
required qualifications include: administrative experience in leading
complex collaborative projects from start to successful finish; very
effective communication and facilitation skills; success in working
with a cross section of the public and private sectors; and a strong
record of successful teaching, service, and scholarship in the
candidate's discipline.

Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred qualifications include: academic leadership in higher
education; success in leading diverse teams of people from within and
outside of education; innovative, collaborative and visionary
approaches to program development; successful experience in working
with doctoral students; experience developing and delivering on-line
programs; and a strong commitment to collaboration and positive social
change.
