The Department of Secondary Education is seeking a tenure track Assistant or Associate Professor of teacher education in the College of Education at California State University, Fullerton. We are seeking an enthusiastic individual committed to promoting just, equitable, and inclusive education to teach in the single subject credential and graduate programs.
The Secondary Teacher Education Program is a university-wide collaboration that serves single subject credential candidates in the areas of Art, English, World Language, Foundational Level Mathematics, Mathematics, Music, Physical Education, Sciences, Social Studies, and Theater. We have achieved regional and national recognition for excellence and are CTC and NCATE accredited. In addition, the Department offers a Master of Science in Education. Responsibilities of the position include:
- Teaching teacher education courses at graduate and undergraduate levels;
- Collaborating to conduct program and curriculum development and revision;
- Leading and overseeing K-12 partnership activities;
- Actively participating in writing large, externally funded grant proposals to support innovations in teacher preparation;
- Providing academic advisement and mentoring;
- Providing service to the University, Department and Profession.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Earned doctorate in Education or a related field from an accredited institution;
- California teaching credential or equivalent;
- 3 or more years of full-time public school teaching experience;
- Knowledge of and demonstrated ability to work effectively in the education of linguistically and culturally diverse school-aged students;
- Experience with preparing educators to meet the needs of linguistically and culturally diverse school-aged students;
- Evidence of active and sustained scholarly activities;
- Commitment to ongoing professional development to maintain currency in the field;
- Experience using current technology to support teaching and learning.
Preferred Additional Qualifications:
- Leadership experience in education profession including involvement with K-12 partnerships and collaborations;
- Experience working in an alternative model of teacher preparation program (e.g., undergraduate or graduate or online blended teacher preparation programs);
- Expertise in research on teacher education and current best practices for clinical preparation of teachers (e.g., co-teaching model);
- Strong scholarship record and demonstrated success in obtaining external funding;
- In-depth understanding of current state and national teacher education issues;
- National Board certification and/or bilingual authorization.
Rank and Salary
This is a full-time, nine (9) - month, tenure-track position at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor. Salary will be competitive and commensurate to rank, experience, and qualifications. Salary is subject to budgetary authorization and any California State University System faculty contract increases. An excellent comprehensive benefits package is available which includes health/vision/dental plans; spouse, domestic partner and /or dependent fee-waiver; access to campus child-care as well as an affordable housing program; and a defined-benefit retirement through the state system along with optional tax sheltering opportunities.
