Texas Tech University seeks an assistant/associate professor of Language, Diversity and Literacy Studies (LDLS) with a concentration in Language and Literacy for an academic year tenure-track position starting in August 2015. The program is seeking an exemplary individual to join a productive faculty that includes scholarly activists who are engaged in EC-12 schools.

Qualifications:  The successful candidate will have:

            (1)  a completed doctorate in Language/Literacy or related fields;
            (2)  a distinguished track-record of EC-12 teaching;
            (3)  a distinguished track-record of college-level teaching;
            (4)  demonstrated ability to contribute to in-depth school-university collaborations;
            (5)  demonstrated potential or track-record of conducting meaningful research in language and
                   literacy
            (6)  demonstrated potential or track-record of obtaining external funding; and
            (7)  a commitment to serving diverse, high-need populations.

Preference will be given to candidates with strong teaching credentials and public school experiences, a demonstrated ability to conduct research with and in schools that result in positive & measurable student outcomes, grant experience and graduate online and/or face-to-face teaching experience. Experience working with diverse student populations and first generation students is highly desirable.

Responsibilities:
  1. Teach graduate language and literacy courses that focus on fostering students conceptual understanding and measurable skills specifically in face-to-face, online, and blended formats;
  2. Conduct research that meaningfully contributes to the improvement of practice and the field of literacy;
  3. Supervise student research and practice in a manner that promotes their synthesis;
  4. Advise masters and doctoral students;
  5. Apply for and manage external funding to support research and the improvement of practice;
  6. Contribute to the advancement of specialization and program goals through service; and
  7. Partner with schools and/or agencies to ensure meaningful, collaborative research, teaching, and practice.

The College of Education at Texas Tech University is comprised of the Department of Curriculum and Instruction, Department of Educational Psychology and Leadership and the Department of Teacher Education. The College of Education houses 11 graduate programs between the Curriculum & Instruction and the Educational Psychology and Leadership departments that prepare both applied and basic researchers who possess the skills to work with diverse populations. Texas Tech University, a member of the Big 12 Conference, is located in Lubbock, Texas (population 257,000).
