The Department of Education at the University of Minnesota Duluth is seeking applicants for a tenure track Assistant Professor: American Indian/Alaska Native Education position beginning August 26, 2013. This is a nine month appointment with the possibility of summer employment.
Essential qualifications include: An earned doctorate in PK-12 education or related field from a regionally accredited institution (i.e. curriculum and instruction, educational psychology, general teaching methods, special education, supervision, multicultural education); three years teaching experience at the PK-12 level, preferably in American Indian, Alaska Native, First Nation schools; a current Early Childhood, Elementary, Special Education, or Secondary Teaching license; and evidence of research and a scholarship agenda.
Desired qualifications include: Demonstrated ability to work with the American Indian, Alaska Native, and First Nation populations, as well as other under-represented groups. Demonstrated ability to work with American Indian, Alaska Native, or First Nation students and their communities. Demonstrated involvement and ability to effect change in indigenous communities. Demonstrated knowledge of local indigenous languages and cultures. Demonstrated course work or experience in one or more of the following: curriculum and instruction, educational psychology, general teaching methods, special education, supervision, or multicultural education. Evidence of experience and/or teaching with integrated (online learning) technology, experience teaching diverse groups of students, and a commitment to social justice.Duties/ResponsibilitiesResponsibilities will include teaching selected courses in Early Childhood, Elementary, Secondary Education, Tribal Master's degree programs, or general teacher education programs. In addition, responsibilities may include advising students, supervising student teacher candidates, conducting research, participating in community and university service, and other duties as assigned.
Salary: Commensurate with qualification and experience.
