CALL FOR PROPOSALS OSU Chapter of Oklahoma Educational Studies Association

OESA Call for Proposals

The OSU Chapter of Oklahoma Educational Studies Association invites
proposals for paper presentations, poster presentations, and short
films for the OESA annual meeting, set for April 19, 2014 from 8 a.m.
- 5 p.m., Willard Hall, Oklahoma State University in Stillwater.

The conference is held by the Social Foundations of Education program
in the School of Educational Studies. This conference is a great
opportunity for graduate students and faculty to present their work,
share works in progress, and prepare to participate in
national/international conferences. Submit by email abstracts of 250
words as an attachment to oesa@okstate.edu byFeb 23, 2014.

Conference Theme: Reimagining Community: Education in a Democratic
Society. In an increasingly diverse and yet connected world, education
is facing the challenge of preparing students to participate in
democratic communities that respect and embrace radical differences.
But how is democracy possible in such a diverse world? What role does
education play in building such community and democracy? What
responsibilities should students be prepared to claim? Since
democratic and responsible citizens are cultivated in schools, this
conference aims to question the current local, national, and global
practices and policies in formal and informal education that fail to
respond to the challenges of imagining and building community. It
urges different ways of thinking that will create responsible citizens
with principles of equality, justice and fairness, essential
characteristics of democratic societies. We invite proposals to engage
with the above questions and other issues concerning current
education.

Topics may include, but are not limited to:
* The notion of community reconsidered
* Democracy and education
* Multiculturalism in the classroom
* TESOL / Linguistic issues
* Differences in Race, Gender, Sexuality, Dis/ability, Religion... and more

Guidelines for submission:
Please email 250 word abstracts as an attachment (Microsoft Word) to
oesa@okstate.edu byFebruary 23, 2014. Please include all presenter
names and institutions. Accepted proposals will be contacted through
email by March 7, 2014.
