Job Description:
The Department of STEM Education & Teacher Development at the University of
Massachusetts Dartmouth invites applications for a tenure-track faculty position in
Language and Literacy Development of English Language Learners (nine-month
appointment) at the Assistant Professor level beginning in the Fall of 2014.

Requirements:
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Candidates must have a doctorate in Educational
Linguistics, ESL/ELL/TESOL, Language Education, Linguistics, Second Language
Acquisition, or a related field (ABDs near completion will be considered) as well as
demonstrated evidence of excellence in research and teaching commensurate to the
applicant's level of entry and a proven track record with, or strong potential for, research
funding. The candidate's research agenda should address the academic development of
English Language Learners (ELL). Candidates should be knowledgeable about current
policies at the state and national level related to ELL students, particularly as those
policies relate to Sheltered English Immersion (SEI). Successful candidate will have K-
12 teaching experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience teaching in teaching licensure
programs; ex with online teaching; interest in and experience with STEM contexts;
knowledge of Sheltered English and Content-based ESL instructional strategies; and
knowledge of the frameworks associated with WIDA (World Class Instructional Design
and Assessments).

Additional Information:
This position involves engaging in an active program of research (supported or
potentially supported by external funding), designing and teaching courses related to ELL
and SEI in the MAT teacher licensure programs for middle and high school teachers,
providing service to the university and the department, and developing partnerships with
area schools and across university departments. There may also be opportunities to teach
and advise in the PhD program depending on the applicant's background and
interests. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to become a member of the
Kaput Center for Research and Innovation in STEM Education, depending on the
successful candidate's research interests.

The Department of STEM Education & Teacher Development is housed in the School of
Education in the College of Arts & Sciences. The College fosters a collaborative
environment with 18 departments spanning the sciences, social sciences, and humanities.
The town of Dartmouth is located in the beautiful SouthCoast region of Massachusetts
halfway between Providence, RI and Cape Cod, MA and just an hour south of
Boston. The region offers access to beaches, trails, arts & cultural activities along with
the rich history that makes living in New England unique.
