Professor of Second Language Education (Open Rank)
The Department of Curriculum and Instruction at the
University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee seeks an individual with teaching and
scholarly interests and expertise in second language education (ESL/Bilingual
Education) for a tenure track position at the open rank. The position focuses
on second language teaching and learning within the urban-focused Language
Education program and the graduate program. Of particular interest are
applicants with expertise in second language acquisition, applied linguistics,
developing biliteracy, or second language assessment. The individual will be
expected to contribute to the development of high quality teaching, research,
and service.
Responsibilities
·
Teach second language education courses to
undergraduate and graduate students in an urban teacher education program
·
Establish an active program of research and
scholarship, including grant writing, in second language education
·
Collaborate in program development and management
with program faculty, public school teachers, and community representatives
·
Advise undergraduate and graduate students,
including masters and doctoral level students
·
Supervise field experiences for preservice
teachers
·
Collaborate with faculty in the Department of Curriculum
and Instruction and other campus units on program development, research
projects, and teacher development projects
Minimum Qualifications
- Earned
Doctorate in Curriculum and Instruction, Second Language Education or in a
closely related field with coursework and experience in second language
acquisition, applied linguistics, biliteracy, and/or second language
assessment
- Minimum
of three years teaching in grades PK-12
- Demonstrated
ability for scholarly productivity and maintenance of an active research
agenda in second language education with a record of publication commensurate
with intended rank
Preferred Qualifications
- Bilingual Spanish
- Experience teaching in
urban schools
- Successful
teaching at the college level or demonstrated evidence of potential for
success
- Demonstrated
evidence of working in the field of second language education with K-12
teachers including capacity to supervise and mentor preservice and
inservice teachers
- Participation
in second language education professional organizations, including
potential for leadership contributions.
- Commitment
to innovation and collaboration in working with teachers in urban public
schools
- Demonstrated
ability or potential for external funding
Salary: Negotiable and
competitive
