DIRECTOR
LA CASA CULTURAL LATINA
Nature of Position: The Director is a 12-month full-time academic professional staff member at La Casa Cultural Latina, the Latina/o cultural center at the University of Illinois at Urbana/Champaign (UIUC). The Director is responsible for the overall administration and supervision of programs and staff at La Casa Cultural Latina, management of facility, fiscal planning and budgeting. The Center is a unit within the Office of Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs and the Office of Inclusion and Intercultural Relations (OIIR).
Duties and Responsibilities:
- In addition to those identified above, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Providing leadership, assistance and support to the La Casa Cultural Latina Advisory Committee and La Casa staff in reviewing the mission and goals of La Casa Cultural Latina and creating a Center strategic plan consistent with OIIR's Strategic Plans. Recruiting, recommending staff hiring, and evaluating staff at La Casa Cultural Latina.
- Develop collaborative working partnerships, specifically with experts in the areas of multicultural, identity, and diversity knowledge, practice, and policy. Through these partnerships, establish and design innovative educational initiatives to impact students and the larger university community.
- Supervising the development and evaluation of programs at La Casa that advance awareness of Latina/o culture, encourage diversity, assist in healthy identity development, and educate the greater community as a whole, as well as collaborating with other centers in joint efforts related to diversity more broadly.
- Develop and implement a comprehensive assessment plan to measure student and university learning outcomes on the measures of intercultural competence.
- Collaborating with other Student Affairs and campus units in the development of services and programs related to Latina/o students and integrating the Center's educational and cultural activities with those provided by other campus units.
- Serving as a liaison between the UIUC Latina/o community and the Champaign-Urbana community. Develop and promote Latina/o alumni relations. Actively develop and encourage cross-cultural communication, collaboration, and awareness while celebrating the unique differences inherent in the Latino/a community.
- Promoting development activities, including grant writing and fundraising aimed at creating resources for Latina/o student programs and retention efforts. Knowledge of higher education trends and theory related to Latino/a development.
- Representing La Casa/OIIR on campus-wide standing and ad-hoc committees. Participating in Divisional and University-wide Latina/o student recruitment and retention initiatives.
- Coordinating the production of reports for internal and external units.
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Master's Degree in higher education administration, student affairs, student activities, counseling or related field.
- Proven successful collaboration and collegial relationships with other departments.
- Minimum of 5 years professional experience in student affairs, higher education administration, or with community organizations.
- Professional experience in the development, coordination and assessment of Latina/o student programs and services.
- Experience in supervision of professional staff.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective collaborative relationships with various constituencies in the university and in the community.
- Understanding of the broad diversity and best practices of U.S. Latina/o communities.
Appointment Type: 12-month, 100% academic professional appointment
Salary: Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
