Amherst College invites applications for a full-time tenured appointment at the rank of Associate or Full Professor with a specialization in U.S. Latino Studies.  The appointment will be contingent upon a tenure review.  Amherst College is an equal opportunity employer and encourages women, persons of color, and persons with disabilities to apply. The College is committed to enriching its educational experience and its culture through the diversity of its faculty, administration, and staff. Applicants must have a social science or historical focus. The position will be housed half in the Department of American Studies and half in another appropriate department. Significant scholarly achievement and a strong commitment to undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts setting with a diverse student population are essential.

The successful candidate will teach two courses each semester and direct senior honors theses; annual teaching responsibilities will include courses at all levels from first-year courses and core courses in the relevant departments to specialized advanced seminars.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. and have broad intellectual interests and a proven track record of excellence in scholarship and in undergraduate teaching. To apply, please submit as PDFs to https://jobs.amherst.edu/view/opportunity/id/504 a letter of application that lists departments in addition to American Studies that would provide an appropriate affiliation for you at the College, a CV, syllabi for courses relevant to Latino Studies, one writing sample of approximately 8,000 words or not to exceed 30 pages, and the names and email addresses of three individuals to whom we may write to solicit recommendations.  Review of applications will begin December 1, 2012, and continue until the position is filled.  Candidates who submit their materials by January 15, 2013, will be assured full consideration.
