On Saturday Oscar was moved from Florida all the way to Texas for deportation to Nicaragua. Oscar is yet another case where someone is detained by ICE for nothing more than seeking help from the police.
In early August, on his way home from work, Oscar was attacked; he was robbed and hit in the head with a hammer. He was rushed to the hospital where he underwent emergency surgery and then checked into the intensive care unit for the next week. The hospital had Oscar fill out his victim compensation form and that's when the police found a previous order on his record. Oscar was immediately turned over to immigration custody, despite doctors orders that he receive care.
As the victim of a serious crime Oscar has a legit U-visa case; instead of letting him fight it ICE plans on deporting yet another low-priority detainee. Oscar came to the United States to help feed his wife and 3-children back in Nicaragua. He is not a priority for deportation.
