The Curry School of Education at the University of Virginia is seeking
applicants for a tenure track Assistant Professor and a non-tenure
track Open Rank Professor in the Department of Leadership,
Foundations, and Policy in the area of Social Foundations of
Education. Both positions require an earned doctorate in Social
Foundations or a closely related field by the start date of the
position.
Responsibilities for the tenure track Assistant Professor include
teaching undergraduate and graduate Social Foundations and
multicultural education courses as well as developing and maintaining
a robust research agenda in Social Foundations. We seek individuals
who possess expertise in the fields of philosophy of education and/or
international and comparative education. Duties for this position
include developing and teaching undergraduate and graduate courses,
conducting, presenting, and publishing academic scholarship,
supervising teaching assistants, advising students, and participation
in program and department initiatives. Evidence of or strong potential
for academic publication and active participation in Social
Foundations or related academic communities is required. Experience
teaching undergraduate students and/or graduate students in the Social
Foundations of Education is preferred.
Responsibilities for the non-tenure track Open Rank Professor include
teaching undergraduate multicultural and Social Foundations courses,
supervising teaching assistants, advising students, and participation
in program and department initiatives. We seek individuals who have
expertise in Social Foundations or multicultural education, possess a
strong commitment to undergraduate teaching, and are open to teaching
large sections. At least three years of teaching undergraduate
students and/or graduate students in multicultural education or the
Social Foundations of Education is required. Experience teaching
blended and online courses is preferred.

This position reports directly to the Provost and carries faculty
rank. Direct reports include the Director of Diversity Student Affairs
and the Director of Student International Services. The Associate
Provost will collaborate with two Faculty Fellows (one focused on
diversity and one focused on internationalization/global learning). In
addition, the Associate Provost will work closely with and be an
active member of the Diversity Council, the International Council, the
extended Dean's Council, and other related constituencies of the
College. This position includes the possibility of limited teaching
each year.
The successful candidate will possess an earned Ph.D. and minimum of
five years of full-time, professional experience in higher education,
administrative skills, successful curriculum development experience,
the ability to develop community, national and international
partnerships, knowledge of best practices for diversity and global
learning in higher education, and an understanding of how higher
education can flourish in an institution that values the liberal arts
and sciences, professional education, and graduate studies.
