Postdoc in Contemporary Indigenous/Native North American Studies at University of Virginia

The University of Virginia seeks to hire a two-year postdoc in contemporary Indigenous/Native North American Studies. Our new colleague will be appointed in American Studies, or have a joint appointment in a relevant department (anthropology/linguistics, etc.) and s/he will work closely with the newly formed Americas Center, a merger of the American Studies and Latin American Studies Programs. The successful fellow's work will ideally connect the local, the regional/national, and the global through engagement with issues of language and cultural heritage, or media production and representation. We would welcome applications from scholars whose work develops understandings of Native North American aesthetics, such as ethnopoetics, translation, or contemporary art forms (material or expressive cultures, music, dance, theater, storytelling, museums, or film).

The 1-1 teaching load allows for the development of a research agenda and the planning of a symposium on indigenous studies in 2018. Competitive salary with full benefits. Review of applications begins on 15 Feb., though the position will remain open until filled. PhD in hand by May, 2016, to begin in August 2016 and complete the post-doc in May, 2018.

Please see the attached job ad for a complete description. Applicants should submit materials (cover letter, CV, and description of proposed symposium) at http://jobs.virginia.edu/applicants/Central?quickFind=78140, (job # 0618012).
