Position Summary: The Department of Literacy, Early, Bilingual, and Special
Education in the Kremen School of Education and Human Development at California
State University, Fresno seeks applicants for a tenure-track, academic year position as an
Assistant Professor. The primary teaching responsibilities will be in the multiple subject
credential program, within the following disciplines: a) early literacy b) instruction in the
Bilingual Authorization Program (formerly BCLAD), (c) master’s program in
Multilingual Multicultural Education, and (d) core courses in English language
development and cross-cultural environments.
Overview: The Kremen School of Education and Human Development’s mission is
recruitment and development of ethically informed leaders for classroom teaching,
education administration, counseling, and higher education. This NCATE-accredited unit
fosters the candidate dispositions of collaboration, valuing diversity, critical thinking,
ethical judgments, reflection, and lifelong learning. Our mission is realized through a
framework of teaching, scholarship, and services that addresses regional, state, national,
and international perspectives. Kremen School of Education and Human Development
(KSOEHD) prepares highly competent educators and human development specialists,
while providing professional support and leadership to the community, promoting applied
research, and providing experiences and opportunities that will enable employed
professionals to remain current in their fields.
Required Education: A doctorate in Education with an emphasis in Literacy, Language
and Culture in multilingual setting or other closely related disciplines from an accredited
institution (or equivalent) is required; however, applicants nearing completion of the
doctorate (ABD) may be considered. The doctorate must be completed by the date of
appointment (8/16/2016).
Required Experience: 1) Successful teaching experience in Pk-8 classrooms; 2)
demonstrated knowledge in bilingual and early literacy; 3) direct experience working
with English language learners in educational settings; 4) experience working effectively
with faculty, staff, and students from diverse linguistic, cultural, and socioeconomic
backgrounds.
Preferred Qualifications: 1) knowledge and experience in working with English
learners, particularly in urban and rural settings; 2) ability to teach courses in bilingual
and multicultural education methodology; and 3) candidates who, in addition to English,
are bilingual and biliterate in either Spanish or Hmong.
