APPLICATION INFORMATION
Dartmouth College invites applications for the César Chávez Postdoctoral Fellowship. The Fellowship supports a scholar whose research addresses aspects of Latino/a experience and culture. Particular attention will be given to candidates who work in any of the following fields: Comparative Literature, English, Latin American, Latino, and Caribbean Studies, Spanish, Women’s, Gender, or Sexuality Studies or an interdisciplinary field that incorporates one or more of these disciplines.
This fellowship is designed to nurture the academic career of a new scholar by providing opportunities to pursue research while gaining mentoring from Dartmouth faculty. The selected fellow will either be appointed within the Latin American, Latino, and Caribbean Studies (LALACS) Program or hold a dual appointment in LALACS and one of the aforementioned departments or programs.
Applicants will be selected on the basis of their academic achievement and promise in both research and teaching, and their demonstrated commitment to educational diversity. Applications from candidates who are underrepresented in their fields are especially welcome.
TERMS OF AGREEMENT
Fellows are expected to pursue research activities associated with their primary area, as demonstrated by conference presentations and published work. Fellows will also teach one course in their home departments during each year of their residency, and are expected to participate in LALACS activities and seminars in their home departments.
This two-year position begins on September 1, 2016 and ends on June 30, 2018. Fellows receive an annual stipend of $55,200 and are eligible for Dartmouth health benefits. A research fund of $4,000 to support computing, travel, and other research needs will be provided.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Complete applications will include:
- A research statement (of no longer than 1,500 words) outlining your completed research (including dissertation), work in progress, and plans for publication;
- A description of interest in and/or experience teaching (up to one page);
- A curriculum vitae; and
- Three confidential letters of recommendation.
- Candidates who do not hold a Ph.D. should provide a letter from their home institution indicating that the applicant is expected to receive the degree before November 1, 2016.

Recipients of the Chávez Postdoctoral Fellowship will be appointed by the Vice Provost for Academic Initiatives and Associate Deans of the Faculty of Arts and Science, upon the recommendation of a faculty selection committee.
