(UIC), ranked
in the top 50 Colleges of Education in the nation, is
seeking nominations and applications to fill an assistant tenure-track position
beginning in the 2015-2016 academic year. We seek scholars with broad research
and methodological perspectives who can prepare graduates with strong research,
pedagogical and technical skills and a strong knowledge base for their
respective areas of scholarship. The hire will be expected to conduct research
in urban contexts or research that informs these contexts; engage in
interdisciplinary and translational scholarship; and provide excellent teaching
to a diverse undergraduate and graduate student population. Candidates will
also be expected to secure external funding for research; advise and
mentor students; supervise doctoral dissertations; and provide service to the
College and Department, including committee work and service to professional
organizations. Candidates for the position must have an earned doctorate prior
to August 2015.
Through its fifteen master’s and doctoral programs and two
undergraduate programs, the UIC College of Education prepares educators,
researchers, and advocates to work effectively in urban schools, institutions
of higher education, and other educational and community agencies. The faculty
actively engages the most pressing problems facing urban communities through
the intersection of teaching, research, policy, and practice, and are committed
to changing the landscape of education inside and outside of schools and
wherever learning takes place, particularly in environments where there is a
need to promote educational, social, political, and economic parity. The
College of Education faculty are distributed across four academic departments. Visit
education.uic.edu for more information about the departments.
We
seek candidates whose scholarship is rooted in Anthropology, Sociology,
History, Philosophy, or related fields in the social foundations of education
with a research focus on urban contexts.
Applicants who bridge disciplinary boundaries and engage in critical
analysis of urban education through the lens of postcolonial studies, feminist
studies, or critical historiography are particularly encouraged to apply.
Candidates should have a vigorous program of research, a record of scholarly
publications, and evidence of strong teaching experience. The candidate who
fills this position will be expected to teach in both undergraduate and
graduate programs, including core doctoral courses in urban education, mentor
students and supervise doctoral dissertations, and demonstrate a commitment to
professional and/or community service.
