1. For the 67th annual meeting of the SOUTHEAST PHILOSOPHY OF EDUCATION SOCIETY
February 6-7, 2015 Memphis, TN

The Southeast Philosophy of Education Society (SEPES) has a long
tradition of providing a friendly forum for dialogue and the exchange
of philosophical ideas related to a broad variety of educational
topics. Topics might include, but are not limited to, the role of
philosophy in clarifying the relationship of school to society;
democracy and education; issues of diversity and commonality in
education; educational policy; school reform; and the integration of
theory and practice. SEPES welcomes papers on these or other issues.
For example, some of the papers included in last year’s program:

§ Contradictions in Knowledge: “Performing” Sex Education in the Southeast
Puneet Gill, The University of Alabama

§ The Governmentality of Accountability
Benjamin Baez, Florida International University

§ The Pathologizing Pedagogy of Teach for America: The Deficit
Ideologies Implicit in Raising Test Scores to Escape Poverty

T. Jameson Brewer, University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign
Chelsea Ulrich, University of Georgia

University colleagues and graduate students from fields other than
philosophy are also encouraged to submit paper proposals.

Please send a 500 word abstract or proposal and a cover letter stating
your affiliation, postal address, email address, and phone number.
When sending your proposal, please do so in one document with your
last name in the file name. The presentation time for papers is
approximately 15 to 20 minutes. THE DEADLINE FOR RECEIVING PROPOSALS
