Assistant/Associate Professor- (Director of the Joint Doctoral Program (JDP) in Educational Leadership)
Effective Date: Fall semester 2015
California State University San Marcos (CSUSM) seeks a Tenure Track faculty for an academic year appointment at an Assistant or Associate Professor level. The successful candidate will build upon the present JDP’s accomplishments and provide a vision that will take the program to the next level. In collaboration with University of California, San Diego (UCSD) faculty, lead program management, recruitment, accreditation and ongoing program assessment and other program-related expectations. Cultivate and nurture relationships with pertinent community entities -- PK-12 schools, tribal education centers, non-profit organizations with social justice missions, etc. – to form partnerships and recruit qualified candidates for the doctoral program. The successful candidate will teach in the doctoral program, serve on dissertation committees, and advise and mentor students. Participate in activities serving the department, college, university and community. Develop and update faculty and student handbooks – identify, recruit and assign faculty to courses and develop program schedules. Oversee program assessment, evaluation, and reporting. Provide instructional leadership that focuses on development of curriculum that ensures fidelity with program goals and student learning outcomes. Work with pertinent university and college personnel to administer the JDP budget.
Minimum Qualifications: Earned doctorate in a field appropriate to leadership in education. Proven experience, expertise and skills leading for social justice in an educational setting including project and/or program leadership. The successful candidate must have experience in doctoral level teaching and service on dissertation committees. Demonstrated ability to teach, advise and mentor students from diverse educational and cultural backgrounds, as well as to work cooperatively on an ethnically and culturally diverse campus. The successful candidate will have the ability to develop and sustain a rigorous path towards retention, tenure and promotion as described in CSUSM policy.
Desired/Preferred Qualifications: Successful experience in building and administering academic programs; and developing collaborative relationships with other universities and local education agencies. Experience in problem solving, conflict resolution, consensus-building, and collaboration. Experience in curriculum design and delivery, including online technologies. Philosophical alignment with the School of Education’s Mission and Vision. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated intercultural competence with diverse groups in teaching, research and/or service.
