Position Summary: The Center for the Study of Higher Education in the Department of Educational Policy Studies and Practice in the College of Education at the University of Arizona invites applications for a tenure track assistant professor. We are looking for someone who meets any of the following areas of scholarly expertise: finance, organizations, or educational policy broadly conceived. Applicants with methodological expertise in advanced quantitative methods, and with an interest in teaching a stats sequence are strongly preferred. The successful candidate will be someone with strong social science sensitivities about the workings of organizations and systems in higher education. The research agendas of the Center’s faculty are distinctive and continually push the boundaries of prominent areas of higher education research. Research foci in the Center include the study of whiteness and the production of privilege; socio-academic integration in community colleges; social media; transitions and transfer experiences of populations of color and new traditional students; the political economy of internationalization, neo-racism, and regional hubs; academic capitalism in organizational practices; and the restructuring and unionizing of the academic workforce. We are a supportive intellectual community that seeks a colleague who will enhance and stretch us in the following ways:

functions of the academy, and

Participate the Center’s commitment to public
engagement and activism that better serves underserved communities of students

The successful candidate will extend the collaborative and
distinctive work of our faculty and students, and be committed to working with
our masters and doctoral students.
Ultimately, our search will be guided more by quality and fit of the
candidate than by the particular area of specialization.
Duties
and Responsibilities: The Center
seeks an individual who will thrive in working with diverse students and
colleagues – we have one of the most diverse departments in the
university. We seek someone who is
deeply engaged in the full range of academic roles, intersecting research,
instruction and advising, and outreach and service. Specifically:
- Conduct and publish research in an
area of expertise and through interdisciplinary collaborations
- Teach primarily graduate level,
and some undergraduate courses in the Center for the Study of Higher
Education
- Participate in advising and
mentoring students, including directing and supervising master’s thesis
and dissertation projects
- Provide professional service to
the department, college, university and community
- Demonstrate a strong interest in
collaboration and engagement with diverse communities
Qualifications:
Doctoral degree in a field relevant to the study of higher education;
evidence of a strong intellectual agenda and of scholarly promise, quality
teaching, and the potential to obtain grant funding or leverage institutional
resources to support research activities.
