San Francisco State University, Department of Latina/Latino Studies invites applicants for a tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor position in Latina/Latino Studies beginning August 2017. SFSU Job ID: 36.16

The department seeks individuals with expertise in Latina/Latino history.

Latina/Latino Studies is a unique liberal arts B.A. degree program with an emphasis on equity, social justice, and community empowerment focused on developing critical thinking, analytical writing skills, and an area of expertise centered on Latinas/Latinos in the U.S. The Latina/Latino Studies Department favors a pan-Latino approach to the study of Chicana/o, Mexican, Central American, South American, and Caribbean-American communities in the U.S. We emphasize gender, transnational identities, global economies, social movements, and critical, socially responsible scholarship that links our classrooms to local communities and their empowerment through both our curriculum and our community service learning program.

Qualifications:
* Candidates should have a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in History, Ethnic Studies, or related field by July 1, 2017 from an accredited program.
* Candidates should have a strong research agenda in Latina/Latino community and issues.
* Candidates must have an active record of community-engaged scholarship related to their specialty area.
* Candidates must be aware and engaged with critical concerns in Latina/Latino Studies and have the capacity to continue to produce original work.
* Candidates must demonstrate the ability to teach our comparative Latino History lecture course (LTNS 278). The ideal candidate would also be able to teach one or more of our department’s other history courses on either Oral History (LTNS 435) or the Mexican American (LTNS 465), Central American (LTNS 460), or Caribbean (LTNS 467) experiences in the U.S.
* Excellence in teaching, scholarship, and curriculum development must be demonstrated.
* Candidates are preferred who have teaching and/or research experience with a large, diverse student body.
* Candidates are preferred who have experience in multicultural settings. The candidate should have interpersonal skills with the ability to work with students and other faculty in a collegial manner.
* Candidates should have a commitment to engaged pedagogy in a faculty learning community.
* Candidates should have oral and written communication skills in the English language at a level that comprehends and conveys information to and from students, colleagues, and others in an effective manner.

Responsibilities:
The position requires undergraduate teaching in Latina/Latino Studies, mentoring and advising undergraduate students, developing an active ongoing scholarship program in one’s area of specialty, and ongoing committee and service assignments. Depending on their expertise and experience, the possibility exists for teaching in the Ethnic Studies graduate program.

Rank and salary:
Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. Salary commensurate with qualifications and experience. The CSU provides generous health, retirement and other benefits.

Submit letter of intent/interest, a current CV, sample of scholarly papers, teaching philosophy, description of research interests, and letters of recommendation from three references. Teaching evaluations will be requested at a later date.
