Faculty Position: Assistant Professor (Job 11701), School of Transborder Studies, Arizona State University

 Assistant Professor (Job 11701)
School of Transborder Studies
Arizona State University

The School of Transborder Studies (STS) at Arizona State University invites applications for a tenure track position as Assistant Professor in the area of Transborder Community Development and Health, with specific focus on population health and the study of the social, behavioral, and economic determinants of health disparities affecting Mexican-origin and Latinx populations. Anticipated start date is August 2017. We are especially interested in applicants who have experience developing and conducting population based research within the U.S.-Mexico transborder region. Substantive areas of research may include: aging; gender, sex and sexual minority health; occupational and environmental health; health policy and health care access; and other relevant areas that address the needs of transborder populations.

STS is the home to an interdisciplinary faculty focused on the theoretical and empirical examination of transborder processes and communities. STS approaches transborder studies in a way that has been historically grounded in and inspired by the geographical specificity of the U.S.-Mexico border region. Faculty enjoy opportunities to develop collaborative work with research entities in the U.S. and Mexico. STS has an established record of this type of research collaboration. The program also examines other transborder regions and engages Latinx populations in other regions of the United States. This approach is unique among U.S. universities and an emerging field of study globally. Both the interdisciplinary scholarship and the location of STS in the Phoenix metropolitan area make it an ideal place to study transborder health issues. Through our new long-term research and outreach initiative, the Program for Transborder Communities, faculty share research in a collegial setting, have the opportunity to apply for seed grant funding on campus, and collaborate with other established research centers and academic departments.
