Faculty Position: Assistant Professor Teacher Education and Open Rank Professor Educational Leadership at Mills College

Mills College invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Teacher Education beginning August 2017. The School of Education credential program has an outstanding reputation for preparing teachers for urban schools who have a commitment for social justice and social change through education. Applicants will need to demonstrate excellence in undergraduate teaching, including experience in active learning and pedagogical innovation; have practical and research experience and expertise in secondary education and social change, with an emphasis on teaching humanities in urban settings; and a record of scholarly achievement.  The successful candidate will oversee the Humanities Single Subject Teacher Credential Program, guide and coordinate the work of field supervisors and cooperating teachers, and serve as the advisor for Humanities Single Subject teacher candidates.

Mills College also invites applications for an open rank tenure-track faculty position in Educational Leadership beginning August 2017. The Educational Leadership program at Mills College has undergone tremendous growth in recent years, and attracts doctoral, masters, and administrative credential students who are committed to a social justice model of education. Their graduates go on to become agents of change as leaders in urban schools and districts in the preparation of teachers and educational leaders and through administrative posts within higher education and educational non-profits.

The ideal candidate will have a scholarly focus on urban education and demonstrated commitment to social justice and social change in education. This successful candidate will teach graduate courses in the Educational Leadership program, supervise doctoral student research, maintain a productive program of scholarship, and active engagement in service to the program, School and College. They seek a productive scholar with a commitment to research and publishing as well as to teaching and mentoring students.  The ability to help us to build connections with Oakland and the surrounding urban school districts, and a willingness to work collaboratively in the preparation of school administrators is strongly desired.  In addition, they have a growing number of students interested in issues of equity and justice in higher education, so expertise in that area would also be welcome.
