Position Description (responsibilities/duties)
Texas State University invites applications for a tenure-track
position at the assistant professor level in our Department of Curriculum and
Instruction, College of Education. The successful candidate will have earned a
doctorate with a clear specialization in Bilingual Education or closely related
field associated with teaching and learning in Spanish and English within
multilingual settings. The candidate will provide intellectual leadership
through an active research agenda, teaching, peer-reviewed publications,
presenting at national/international conferences, advising students, and
through the exploration of grant opportunities. The responsibilities include
bilingual education teacher preparation for Grades Pk-6th at the undergraduate
and graduate levels; teaching other field-related courses; collaborating with
colleagues to support program assessment and improvement design; and, providing
service to the department, university, the profession, and the public.
Responsibilities:
1. Conduct research in
Bilingual Education or in closely related fields encompassing the education of
students for whom English is not their native or primary language.
2. Teach graduate and
undergraduate courses related to the education of Bilingual and English
learners.
3. Advise graduate and
undergraduate students in the Bilingual Bicultural Education program.
4. Provide leadership in the field of Bilingual
Education or closely related field at the university, regional, state,
national, and international levels.
5. Collaborate with colleagues on the Bilingual
Bicultural Education Program course design, implementation, and assessment, as
well as on the sustainability of a quality program.
6. Provide service to the department,
university, public, and to the profession.
Qualifications
Required:
1.
An
earned doctoral degree in Bilingual Education or closely related field by
hiring date;
2.
Academic
language proficiency in Spanish and English;
3.
A
minimum of three (3) years teaching experience in a bilingual education/ESL
instructional PK – 12, or similar setting;
4.
Ability
to establish a research agenda in the field of bilingual education or closely
related field;
5.
Evidence
of involvement in culturally and linguistically responsive teaching, promoting
equitable education for all students.
Preferred:
1.
Demonstrated
potential for excellence in teaching at the university level;
2.
Evidence
of collaborative work with colleagues at the university level, with public
schools and/or community within a diverse environment;
3.
Evidence
of successful supervision of field-based experience;
4.
Evidence
of experience using innovative technologies and/or integrating technology into
the curriculum;
5.
Demonstrated
potential for external funding.

San Marcos, a city of about 50,000
residents, is situated in the beautiful Central Texas Hill Country, 30 miles
south of Austin and 48 miles north of San Antonio. Metropolitan
attractions plus outdoor recreational opportunities makes the community an
attractive place in which to live and work. Other major metropolitan
areas, including Houston and Dallas-Ft. Worth, are within four hours.
Round Rock, a city of 107,000 residents is located 15 miles north of Austin in
the Central Texas hill country.
