Adios to MEXICANIDAD, Our Past is Present
After thirteen years on display Mexicanidad, the Museum's permanent collection exhibition, has closed. It opened to the public in our new wing in April 2001. The exhibition was a first of a kind permanent display showcasing the Mexican culture from ancient Mesoamerica to the present Mexican experience on both sides of the border - the reinstallation of this gallery will be no less inspiring!

Join us this fall 2014 as we inaugurate a brand new exhibition in the renovated 6,975 square-foot gallery. Nuestras Historias: Stories of Mexican Identity from the Permanent Collection will focus on the timeless and universal concerns of human existence and identity through Mexican society on both sides of the border. The Museum will also launch a rotating Works on Paper Gallery to showcases the countless prints, drawings and ephemera in the collection.
Cesar's Last Fast
The Chavez Foundation and the National Museum of Mexican Art invite you to join us for a screening of the documentary film Cesar's Last Fast. The film is built around powerful, never-before-seen footage of Chavez's 1988 "Fast for Life," a 36-day act of penance for not having done enough to stop growers from spraying pesticides on farm workers.
The screening will take place at the museum on Tuesday, June 3rd at 6:00 sharp.
RSVP for this free event here.
Nicolás de Jesús Book Presentation
Join us on Saturday, June 7th at 11:00 a.m.for a talk with and about the work of Nicolás de Jesús , a Mexican artist from the Nahua region of Guerrero, Mexico.

His work, painting and etching on materials from walls to amate (bark paper), reflects the spectrum of his experiences from his origins in a traditional Mexican Village to the complex problems of Mexican immigrants in the United States and his concern for preserving his cultural identity.

Our very own Cesáreo Moreno will moderate a discussion with the artist who will be joined by Aline Hemond of the University of Paris, and Chicago journalist Francisco Piña to talk about a book on De Jesús written by Hartmut Zantke.
