In this issue of ETS Education Research Update, we are pleased to feature ETS Research Spotlight and R&D Connections — two ETS publication series that feature the latest research conducted by ETS researchers.
Each of these publications is written in nontechnical language, but has a different focus. ETS Research Spotlight provides a synopsis of work ETS researchers published in another venue.R&D Connections, on the other hand, aims to give an in-depth overview of a particular area of research, examines how it impacts the field of education and provides possible real-world solutions.
Assessment and gaming is the topic of ETS Research Spotlight No. 8 (PDF). This edition focuses on the work of several researchers — including Robert Mislevy, ETS's Frederic M. Lord Chair in Measurement and Statistics — who are examining various facets of game technology and principled ways to leverage it for assessments of what students know and can do.
In R&D Connections No. 21 (PDF), ETS Associate Research Scientist, Mo Zhang, examines advantages and limitations surrounding the automated and human scoring of essays.
We hope you find this edition of Education Research Update to be informative.
Thank you,
