Assistant Professor of Educational Foundations

The Department of Leadership and Educational Studies in the Reich
College of Education at Appalachian State University invites
applications for a tenure-track nine-month faculty position at the
rank of Assistant Professor of Educational Foundations beginning
August 2013. Responsibilities include teaching graduate and
undergraduate courses in Educational Foundations with main campus and
off-campus assignments, graduate and undergraduate student advisement,
engagement in scholarly activity, and internal and external service
responsibilities. Instructional duties include teaching three courses
in social and philosophical foundations of education each semester
with a specific focus on critical social justice.

Required Qualifications

• An earned doctorate in Foundations of Education with specializations
in social foundations of education, critical race studies and
qualitative research methods
• Demonstrated teaching/research interest and expertise focused on
critical social justice education within the context of an
undergraduate teacher education program
• Minimum two semesters of teaching experience within a university
teacher education program.
• Demonstrated commitment to and analysis of conditions required for
human agency, social justice, and democratic life
• Demonstrated record of successful scholarly activity
• Demonstrated record of research and/or service focused on issues of
access and equity in K-
12 and higher education around issues of race and class
• Demonstrated commitment to the education of individuals for teaching
and educational
leadership positions
Preferred Qualifications
• K-12 teaching and/or counseling experience

1986. Degrees granted are primarily in bachelors and masters programs
