Language & Literacy Faculty Position

 DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATIONAL STUDIES, COLGATE UNIVERSITY
LANGUAGE, LITERACY, AND LEARNING--TENURE STREAM

The Department of Educational Studies at Colgate University seeks an
open rank tenure stream position in Language, Literacy, and Learning
beginning Fall 2013. The ideal candidate would have a strong
interdisciplinary background in foundations of education, with
experience in both educational theory and practice in the area of
Developmental and Psychological Foundations. We are looking for
scholars who have an active program of interdisciplinary research and
teaching interests in any of the following areas: critical literacy
studies; bilingualism and biliteracies; and sociolinguistics. We are
particularly interested in candidates who have taught in K-12 schools,
higher education, and/or community-based programs. Candidates who are
committed to service learning are encouraged to apply. The candidate
will contribute to our major/minor programs as well as our teacher
certification programs. All Colgate faculty are also expected to
participate in all-university programs, including the Liberal Arts
Core Curriculum.

Colgate is a highly-selective liberal arts university of 2800 students
situated in central New York and the faculty is committed to
excellence in both teaching and scholarship. The Educational Studies
Department is social justice focused. All our faculty are committed to
providing a breadth of course offerings to students interested in
studying education broadly, including students who are interested in
gaining a critical understanding of larger educational phenomena and
students planning a career in teaching. A letter of application,
current vita, a statement of a teaching philosophy, evidence of
effective teaching, a sample of scholarly writing, and at least three
