Education Project Specialist

KLRU, Austin's PBS station, seeks a Project Specialist to spearhead an 11-month (Jan - Nov 2013), grant-funded project underwritten by the Department of Education through the Corporation for Public Broadcasting and Ready to Learn funding. This position will oversee the procurement of equipment and supporting materials to permanently install two Transmedia Demonstration Stations at two local community service agencies, and will facilitate the training of staff and community members in the uses of these stations. The specialist will be responsible for monthly reporting on expenditures and grant-related activities and will report to the Director of Educational Services. Selected candidate will interact with KLRU staff and board members, CPB and PBS staff, community agency staff and recipients of services, children of all ages, and general public. The candidate must be able to work within the guidelines of monthly reporting and other deadlines. The candidate is expected to travel to the two community agency sites and to periodically host or attend evening hours at the sites. (Job is a grant funded contract position)
Duties and responsibilities:
  • Work with the Educational Services and community agency staff to procure equipment best suited for each site’s Transmedia Demonstration Station within budgetary and contractual guidelines
  • Create and maintain a schedule of equipment installation and training of community agency staff
  • Create and maintain a schedule for appropriate uses of the Transmedia Demonstration Station by community agency clients, including inaugural events, formal training opportunities, informal exploratory times, and back to school events at each site
  • Obtain required specialized training for regular work at the two sites
  • Other duties as assigned by Director of Educational Services
  • Provide monthly narrative and financial reports on project per federal reporting guidelines
  • Organize and host two KLRU Kids Advisory Panels (one spring 2013, one summer 2013) to obtain input on PBS Kids Transmedia content and recommendations for further development
  • Provide detailed feedback on and critique of site operations to the Director of Educational Services and to Development staff in order to pursue continued funding for the project.
Experience and skills:
  • Facility with mobile tablet devices, desktop computers, and peripheral equipment (projection, sound, printing, etc.)
  • Able to instruct other adults on the uses and maintenance of equipment (tablet computers, desktop computer, projection equipment)
  • Able to build strong relationships with internal teams and community agency staff
  • Able to meet deadlines
  • Able to provide warm and supportive service to families in crisis
  • Skills and confidence to efficiently and accurately work within a busy Educational Services office.
  • Bilingual Spanish skills (primarily oral) strongly preferred
**Selected candidate will be required to undergo a criminal background screening.
Salary: $2545.45 / month for 11 months (Jan. 1, 2013 - Nov. 30, 2013)
