SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. – A new institute created to provide parents with leadership training to become more active and effective in the decision-making process in their area schools and communities will hold its inaugural conference on Saturday, March 29, at Cal State San Bernardino.
The Binational Parent Leadership Institute is the result of an alliance of the San Bernardino CountySuperintendent of Schools, the Mexican Consulate in San Bernardino and Cal State San Bernardino’sLatino Education and Advocacy Days organization.
The conference will feature workshops addressing advanced parent leadership skills and seminarswith renowned speakers from California and Mexico. The conference, which is free and open to the public, will be from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. in the CSUSB Santos Manuel Student Union Events Center.
The Binational Parent Leadership Institute conference is the fourth and final event in the fifth annual Latino Education and Advocacy Days.
The first event is an education webinar on Wednesday, March 26. The fifth annual LEAD summit will take place on Thursday, March 27. The spring meeting of the Southern California Consortium of Hispanic Serving Institutions will be on Friday, March 28, with the BPLI conference concluding the schedule.

Purpose / Propósito
- Explore and establish an advanced organized binational Parent Involvement mechanism in the Inland Empire that will provide parents with institutional leadership trainings to become more effective change agents in service delivery for their families.
- Explorar y establecer un mecanismo binacional de padres para su involucramiento avanzado y organizado en el Inland Empire, el cual sea capaz de proveer a los padres un entrenamiento para el liderazgo institucional, y de esta manera puedan convertirse en agentes de cambio al servicio de sus familias.
- Develop a process(s) for parents to create a cadre of leadership for direct input, parent voice, advocacy and impact in local/regional schools & communities and at state/national levels.
- Desarrollar un proceso dirigido a padres y crear un marco de liderazgo para el involucramiento directo, expresar su opinión, abogar e impactar dentro de escuelas y comunidades locales y regionales, así como a nivel estatal y nacional.
- Develop focus on effective strategies to meaningfully engage parents in planning, implementation and evaluation of services to ensure positive outcomes for families and students.
- Desarrollar un enfoque en estrategias efectivas para un compromiso significativo de los padres en la planeación, implementación y evaluación de servicios, y asegurar resultados positivos para las familias y estudiantes.
