The Department of Early Childhood and Childhood Education invites applications for a tenure-track assistant or associate professorship beginning Fall 2018. Candidates must have an active record of research/scholarship/creative works, and a strong commitment to teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Teach courses in undergraduate and graduate early childhood and childhood programs to prepare teachers to teach linguistically diverse children across the curriculum, birth-grade 6. Advise students in these programs; engage in research and scholarly writing; develop and submit proposals for funded projects; collaborate within and across traditional program boundaries and with local day care centers, nurseries, and elementary schools through school-college partnerships and field-based courses.The successful candidate will be expected to teach undergraduate and graduate literacy level courses in bilingual education and additional curriculum areas in early childhood and childhood education; advise students; provide service to the department, college, university, and community; i.e. committee, administrative, supervisory, and other assignments normally associated with a full-time faculty appointment; day and evening teaching will be required.
The Lehman College campus is located in Bronx, New York and is a Senior College within the City University of New York (CUNY) system. Lehman is the only four-year public college in the Bronx and is recognized as a Hispanic Serving Institution. The college serves mainly undergraduate students preparing them for employment, the professions and further study. The teaching load is 21 hours (7 courses) per year and although the college is predominantly teaching focused, faculty at Lehman are active in research, scholarship and creative works. Service to the college, university and community is part of the mission as is a clear commitment to student engagement including advisement. Teaching is reduced for junior faculty over the first five years for scholarly development and all faculty are actively encouraged to seek external funding. Opportunities are available for faculty development and travel awards. Lehman College and CUNY internal funding is available through competitive grants for scholarship support. | |
QUALIFICATIONS

Ph.D. or terminal degree in Early Childhood/Childhood Education or a related academic field is required on commencement of the appointment. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution.
Preferred Qualifications: Earned Doctorate in related field, academic and teaching experience with emergent bilingual learners (EBLs) at the early childhood and childhood levels in urban settings, emerging research and scholarly writing program, contribution at national/international conferences, and ability to integrate technology into instruction, advisement, and other areas of professional work. | |
