Position Summary
The Department of Sociology at the University of New Mexico invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track position in the area of race and/or ethnicity at the assistant professor level to begin August 2018. A conferred Ph.D. in sociology or a closely related field by the beginning of the appointment is required. Applications must demonstrate evidence of independent research that engages key debates and/or makes theoretical, empirical and/or methodological innovations in the sociology of race and/or ethnicity (e.g, racialization, racial conflict, racial/ethnic stratification, immigration and other core areas).  The new faculty member will teach advanced undergraduate and graduate courses in the sociology of race and/or ethnicity, supervise students on masters and doctoral committees on race and/or ethnicity, and contribute to core, required undergraduate and graduate courses. 

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
a. Ph.D. in sociology or related field completed by start date of appointment.
b. Evidence of primary specialization in the sociology of race/racialization and/or ethnicity.
Preferred Qualifications
a. Evidence of an active research agenda and publication history in the sociology of race and/or ethnicity.
b. Evidence of independent research that engages key debates and/or contributes to theoretical, empirical or methodological innovations in the field.
c. Academic preparation and demonstrated ability to teach advanced undergraduate courses in race and/or ethnicity as well as contribute to the core courses in the undergraduate program.
d. Ability to teach the required comprehensive graduate level course in the sociology of race and/or ethnicity; able to describe capacity to supervise comprehensive doctoral examinations in the sociology of race and/or ethnicity.
e. A demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student success, as well as working with broadly diverse communities.
Application InstructionsA complete application consist of a letter describing the applicant’s qualifications as they relate to the minimum and preferred criteria (e.g., research agenda, and teaching experience, etc.); a current curriculum vita (please include an email address and telephone number); at least two (maximum three) scholarly writing samples as one PDF file. In addition, applicants need to have three mentors submit their letters of recommendation by the application deadline 
Applicants who are appointed to a UNM faculty position are required to provide an official certification of successful completion of all degree requirements prior to their initial employment with UNM.
