Dear LEAD Organization Project members and affiliates,
We want to make sure your group, organization and/or campus knows about all the ways you can be involved in the PBS bilingual initiative and project entitled LATINO AMERICANS.
LATINO
AMERICANS is a 3-part, 6-hour documentary - the first major documentary
series for
television to chronicle the rich and varied history and experiences of
Latinos, who have for the past 500-plus years helped shape what is today
the United States. Led by Emmy Award-winning series producer Adriana
Bosch and narrated by Benjamin Bratt, the
LATINO AMERICANS series documents the evolution of a new “Latino
American” identity from the 1500s to the present day, featuring
interviews with close to 100 Latinos from the worlds of politics,
business and pop culture.
You can watch a preview here:
LATINO AMERICANS trailer.
The film is scheduled to air on PBS over three Tuesdays beginning September 17,
as well
as on Vme, the Spanish-language channel on public television, and it
will be a major opportunity to have a national discussion on the
increasingly-important role that Latinos have played, and continue to
play, in shaping America’s culture, history, economy
and politics.
The documentary series was
featured at an afternoon plenary at the 2013 LEAD Summit - “Beyond the
Broadcast of PBS' LATINO AMERICANS: a Public Engagement and Education
Campaign”. Click below to view.

The bilingual project also includes a companion book by Ray Suarez, Senior Correspondent
for PBS NEWSHOUR, a nationwide public engagement initiative, and digital engagement and public education campaigns.
Please
find attached a general overview onesheet for the project, as well as
the latest press
release about the broadcast. Neyda Martinez, CC'd here, is the
project's National Engagement Consultant, and will be your point for if
your organization would like to feature the series on your campus. The
project can provide you a highlight reel DVD for
your event, which is an overview of the whole Latino Americans series,
as well as general discussion points. The project can also provide a
complimentary one-on-one coaching session on how to use the content in
learning settings or with community groups --
please contact LatinosPBS@gmail.com for
that opportunity. (Please note that the project is not able to bring
filmmakers or any of the featured subjects to your screening event.)
Below is the link to the series website on pbs.org,
as well as some other quick pieces for
the series -- including links to embeddable video. The project's
Interactive Engagement team is distributing now a regular weekly series
of suggested social media posts (with shareable history facts, quotes,
video content and images) in both English and Spanish
- if you would like to be on the distribution list for that, please let
us know.
Thank you for your time -- and I hope you will join us in this tremendous opportunity to
share this important American history in a way that's never been done before.
