Leadership, Equity, and Social Justice in American Higher Education:
Essays for Academic and Student Affairs Professionals From The Field;
Edited by C. P. Gause, PhD, Associate Professor-Higher Education,
University of North Carolina-Greensboro

The purpose and aim of this volume is to “critique” the current state
of American Higher Education through the lens of critical theory and
critical pedagogy. Since the Great Recession of 2007 we have witnessed
dramatic cuts in state funding to public universities, a significant
increase in student loan debt because of ever increasing tuition,
challenges to academic freedom and tenure for faculty, issues
regarding access and equity to higher education by undocumented
students and those in poverty, and the corporatization of higher
education. Issues regarding leadership and shared governance of
institutions continue to play out in the media and technology
continues to impact how the curriculum is delivered. This volume seeks
to impact higher education preparation programs by filling the void in
the literature with voices from the field.
