*Children Fight to Reunite Their Families
*Elvira Arellano to escort U.S Citizen Children in Mexico to the Border where her son Saulito will bring their letters across the border to Congressman Gutierrez in San Antonio… and then to Washington DC
The Children’s Campaign, organized by Familia Latina Unida and Coordinadora 13, a national network of community organizations and churches, is working to insure that U.S. citizen children and “dreamers” can remain or reunite with their families in the upcoming immigration reform legislation. Letters addressed to the President and the leaders of Congress are being collected throughout the country and south of the border in Mexico, Guatemala and Honduras.
The campaign – which is also asking President Obama to suspend deportations while Congress is debating – was the idea of Saulito Arellano, the U.s. citizen son of Elvira Arellano who stood in sanctuary in her Chicago Church for a year fighting her deportation before she was finally deported to Mexico.
On Sunday, April 28th Elvira and Saulito will bring children’s letters to the border in Nuevo Laredo. Saulito and several other children will cross the border and will be met by U.S. citizen children and dreamers on the United States side. They will then proceed to San Antonio to present their letters – and tell their stories – to Congressman Luis Gutierrez and Republican leaders who are gathered there for a luncheon.
The Children are asking that  those of their parents who have been deported be allowed to return and those who are threatened with deportation be allowed to remain – so that they can remain with their families in the United States together. Saulito will continue on to Chicago to speak at the May 1st march for immigration reform. Later in the month, children will go to Washington to present the letters.
