Southern Connecticut State University invites applications for a full
time, tenure track position in the Department of Curriculum and
Learning to begin August 2017.  SCSU is a comprehensive university of
approximately 10,000 students located in New Haven, a culturally
vibrant environment surrounded by many fine universities with easy
access to New York and Boston. The university is student-centered and
intentionally diverse, and we regard student success as our highest
priority.  We seek to instill in all of our students the value of the
liberal arts and sciences as the foundation for professional
development.

Brief Description of Duties/Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will teach undergraduate and graduate courses
in early childhood and literacy. Additional responsibilities include
collaboration with the special education program, student advisement,
student teaching supervision, department and university service, and
scholarship.

Required Qualifications:
An earned doctorate or be all but dissertation (ABD) in early
childhood education, literacy or a related field.  If ABD, candidate
must have earned doctorate by the end of the first year of
appointment;
A minimum of three years of full-time relevant teaching in elementary
schools (PK-6).
Evidence of ability to teach university level courses in early
childhood education and literacy related to teaching in elementary
schools.
A strong potential for scholarly activity leading to presentations at
professional meetings and publications in peer-reviewed journals.

Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in urban school communities.
Experience teaching and/or knowledge of child development and
inclusive practices, constructivist, play-based, and project-based
learning.
Evidence of infusion of technology in pedagogy.
Background in special education.
Evidence of work in teacher education and professional development.
